Since 2004, Bryce A. Keller has been dedicated to designing something that will exceed the needs of his clients. Having developed a love for architecture at an early age, he has spent his career looking for ways to use it to help others. One of his goals is to make a difference in the industry by helping establish robust urban infrastructure in developing nations. Just as critical is the need to solve the environmental challenges to help improve the quality of life of the people.
It was always fairly obvious that this was the right path for Keller. As a child, he would cover the living room floor with Legos, creating his own towns and cities. While his parents were hard at work at their jobs, he was hard at work creating something for his own future. Over time, he developed an interest in art, which manifested when he was a teenager. That developing interest was put to use as he created street art, and his skills were far greater than he had initially anticipated. His interest and dedication earned him the Citizenship Award in high school after he designed a street art mural that he dedicated to the 9/11 survivors. With this newfound interest, he began planning where he would go to college.
Ultimately, Keller decided to go to Westwood College. Over his college career, he engaged in a lot of activities and earned recognition for his skills:
- He participated in the Lions Rotary Club Speaker “Political Speech Contest.”
- He joined the Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society.
- He earned the Leadership & Perseverance Scholarships.
When he graduated, Keller was at the top of his class.
While he was earning his degree from Westwood College, Keller was working as a freelance designer. It gave him a head start into a career that has been both rewarding and challenging. He has continued to work on commission over the years, but he has also worked with several large companies, including Permit Advisors, and Wayne C. Siu Architects. He began full-time at Wayne C. Siu Architects, and was promoted to project manager by 2010. Then working for AECOM, he was instrumental in the PG&E Park Renovation project and Timbers Soccer Team Stadium. Working as a Site Supervisor at KAYO Builders, he was responsible for site supervision, safety assessments, and other critical aspect of construction administration. He is also thankful for the opportunity to work with some of the best designer companies in 90210.
As impressive as his resume appears, Keller was adversely affected by the 2008 recession. What made this particularly difficult was that he had just moved to San Francisco. He applied to more than three dozen architectural firms in the Bay Area, but many of them were preparing to shut down because of the recession.
Keller had to take a completely different approach to employment, something that was a lot more difficult before 2010. By adapting the old school method of marketing, Keller started to market himself instead of relying on online methods and other techniques that were proving ineffective. He needed to stand out. This he accomplished, getting hired to work with Ellerbe Becket (now known as AECOM, one of the top firms in the world) – his dream job. Working on the contract, Keller had the opportunity to work with the Interiors Team on projects like the Portland OR Timbers Soccer Team Stadium Remodel.
As much as he loved the work and the opportunity he had with the Ellerbe Becket, Keller knew that it wasn’t quite the right direction for his future. When the contract ended, he decided to pursue a new dream of working for himself. While he has worked on other contracts over the years, he has continued to freelance between contracts.
With several dozen projects under his belt, he is looking for a real challenge that will help him develop as a designer and project manager.
